The Data Viewer provides two ways to download data from Enigma Public:

  • The Export button lets you download the current data snapshot in CSV format.
  • The API button lets you download information from the current data snapshot in JSON format.

Exporting data

The Export button lets you download the current dataset in CSV (comma-separated value) format. If you applied any filters, you can choose to download the full dataset or the current filtered view.

You must be signed into Enigma Public to use this feature (see Creating an account).

Having the data available in CSV format is valuable if you wish to perform any kind of data analysis beyond what’s available through the Enigma Public web application. It also makes it possible to execute queries across multiple datasets to discover connections or patterns that are otherwise hidden. For examples of ways you might explore data exported from Enigma Public, see Exploring further.

Non-commercial users can export up to 80 datasets per month free of charge. For commercial applications, see https://www.enigma.com/data or contact us at contact@enigma.io and a member of our sales team will help you find the right solution for your needs.

Using the API

You must be signed into Enigma Public to use this feature (see Creating an account).

The API button lets you download information from the current data snapshot in JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) format. The JSON includes metadata for the snapshot you are viewing as well as the parent dataset and includes information such as:

  • When the snapshot was created (in other words, when the most recent data was imported into Enigma Public)
  • The dataset name, description, and ID, as well as when the dataset was created and when it was last modified (this includes updates to the metadata)
  • The field names, descriptions (if available), and types (integer, string, etc.)
  • The snapshot ID and the number of rows

The JSON also includes the first 200 data records. You can increase the number of rows returned (maximum 10,000) by modifying the row_limit parameter (see below).

Clicking the API button sends an HTTP GET request to the Enigma Public API’s /snapshots endpoint. You’ll see the HTTP request in the browser address bar, for example:

https://public.enigma.com/api/snapshots/<snapshot_id>?&row_limit=200

The API provides programmatic access to everything on Enigma Public, subject to the Terms of Service. For a quick tutorial on using the API, see Getting started with the API. For detailed information about using the API, see the Enigma Public API Reference.

Non-commercial users can make 50,000 calls to the Enigma Public API per month free of charge. For commercial applications, contact us at contact@enigma.io and a member of our sales team will help you find the right solution for your needs.
